Founded in 1898, Ascoli are one of the oldest football clubs in Italy. After an unexpected promotion to Serie A, they could soon find themselves returning to Serie B at the end of this season.

Some may have thought that Ascoli would struggle in Italy's Serie A in 2005/6 since they weren’t fully prepared for promotion.

Ultimately, the team from the Marche region on the Adriatic coast did very well and under the guidance of Marco Giampaolo finished a very credible 12th, which was improved to 10th after the major match-fixing scandal (known as the Calciopoli scandal), the final outcome of which saw Juventus relegated and stripped of their league championship titles in 2005 and 2006.

Milan are delighted at wiping out their points penalty after just three games.

"I am very happy with the result, we struggled at times but also created many clear opportunities," said goalscorer Marek Jankulovski.

Brazilian star Kaka was also pleased with the result but did concede that it wasn't a classic performance from the Rossoneri. "In the first half we played too far apart from each other, there was never a teammate nearby, but then things changed," said the 24-year-old. "But we won again and that is what counts, and what is more important is that we finally removed the minus sign from the standings."

Skela for Ascoli

The 29-year-old was released by Kaiserslautern following their relegation to Bundesliga 2 last season.

Skela, who previously played in the German top-flight for Eintracht Frankfurt and Arminia Bielefeld, was an ever-present last season and scored four goals.

Skela joins the Vittorio Emanuele outfit on a one-year deal with an option for a further year if the Bianconero continue to consolidate in Serie A.
